Building the future of energy, together
Future Energy Ventures is a unique venture capital platform that brings together corporate partners and world-class start-ups to shape the future energy landscape.
Future Energy Ventures is the venture capital investment and collaboration platform of E.ON, one of Europe’s largest operators of energy networks and energy-related infrastructure and a provider of innovative customer solutions for about 50 million customers.

Our Vision
We believe the future of energy will see multiple sectors converging to deliver decarbonized, digitalized and democratized access to energy.
This needs us to all think differently; everything will be interconnected and play a role within a larger energy infrastructure. Electric cars are not just vehicles, they are also mobile batteries; buildings can also be energy generators; homes and businesses can be smart and connected, regulating the energy they use and when. Frontier technologies such as AI and blockchain have a role to play in connecting these producers and consumers of energy together.
Creating this new energy future requires bold thinking and will see new players disrupt traditional energy supply chains. Future Energy Ventures exists to drive that transition by investing in the innovative companies that are creating the digital and digitally enabled technologies that have the potential to redefine the future energy landscape, helping these pioneers to build their business and make the connections to accelerate their growth.
Future Energy Ventures is born from the energy industry, but it understands energy must converge with other sectors to create a sustainable and prosperous future. This is why we go beyond energy to invest in companies solving problems in cities or building frontier technology. The realization of our ambition relies on collaboration and partnerships; between people and companies from many different industries.

Frequently asked questions
-
Our sweet spot is digital, scalable and asset-light companies seeking Series A and beyond funding that have shown evidence of a product-market-fit.
-
If the company is raising series A we invest between €1-5 million. For later stages we invest between €5-10 million.
-
It depends on the stage of the company, but we aim for a 10-20% participation.
-
Not necessarily. While our headquarters are in Germany, we have teams in Silicon Valley and Israel who are seeking for startups in their larger regions. That said, your company can be based in Europe, USA or Israel.
-
We have three sourcing fields: energy, cities and frontier technologies. Energy includes solutions for energy storage (VPPs, distributed generation), distribution (smart grids, microgrids, ancillary services for grid operation, inspection and maintenance) and management (demand response, demand side management, P2P trading, energy monitoring and auditing, energy management and energy efficiency). Cities encompass the areas of smart buildings (property management systems, smart meter, building efficiency), future mobility (electric mobility, charging & infrastructure, connected mobility, V2X, telematics), connected urban infrastructure (e.g. decentralized energy infrastructure, P2P trading, smart lighting, smart traffic control, & management services). Technologies includes cybersecurity & resilience as well as enabling technologies (IoT, AI, blockchain, big data, robotics & drones, Quantum Computing, Edge Computing, Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR)).
-
Pioneering the transition to a new energy future built on digital technologies relies on expanding our scope to encompass a wider definition of the future of energy, that includes smart cities technologies and blockchain and AI-based business models, for example.

We target a board seat or at least a board observer seat. We want to support founders in making strategic decisions that will help them succeed.
-
We do lead investment rounds but it is determined on a case by case basis. It’s not a yes/no answer but an ‘it depends’.
-
What really sets us apart is our network of highly committed partners and our integrated collaboration platform. We provide our portfolio companies with funding, mentoring and connections to accelerate their growth trajectory.
-
While we don’t see ourselves as an operational VC as such, we do provide fundraising support, access to our network and recruiting services to our founders. We like working together with them to help find the right strategy for their business.
-
Naturally our biggest partner is E.ON SE. Additionally, our ecosystem of strategic partners and investors consist of a large cooperation from Asia, North America, Middle East and Europe.
