At Future Energy Ventures, our team is the heart of everything we do to decarbonize society. We are thrilled to introduce Başak Günver, our newest addition to the team. Başak brings a wealth of diverse ideas and experiences that will undoubtedly enrich our team as we continue our journey towards a sustainable future.

What is your role in the Future Energy Ventures team?

As part of the Future Energy Ventures team, my primary focus is currently on fundraising, where I support efforts to secure our ambitious €250M target. This involves engaging with a diverse range of potential investors globally, gaining insights into fund structuring, investor relations, and capital deployment strategies. Additionally, I contribute to deal flow by assessing investment opportunities and supporting the pipeline. This role allows me to deepen my expertise in venture capital while driving the fund’s long-term success.

Which technologies or areas of the energy system do you find particularly interesting?

I find Earth observation (EO) technologies particularly fascinating, especially in their role in optimizing energy management and supporting renewable energy projects. EO satellites provide critical data on solar radiation, wind speeds, and other environmental factors, helping us assess renewable energy potential, plan infrastructure, and manage grids more efficiently. Nature itself holds the answers to a more sustainable energy future, and EO is the bridge that connects us to these resources in the smartest way possible.

What advice would you give to a budding start-up or entrepreneur looking to secure funding?

Make sure your numbers are solid, as investors lose confidence when financials are inconsistent, or projections feel unrealistic. Show traction by demonstrating customer interest or measurable progress, as this proves your market fit. Build a strong team, as investors invest in people as much as products—emphasize your team’s ability to execute. Have a clear business model in place, because even great tech needs a solid go-to-market strategy. Most importantly, remember that while it’s a numbers game, it’s ultimately a people business.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

“Don’t waste your time being upset about things that won’t matter in three years, three months, three days, or three hours.” It’s a great reminder to keep things in perspective and not to dwell on temporary challenges or setbacks that won’t have a lasting impact.

What do you like doing when you’re not working?

I’m a people person, so I love spending time with my friends and family. I make it a point to travel and explore new places whenever possible, and music festivals are a big passion of mine. When I’m not on the go, I enjoy reading, staying active with Pilates, and cooking. I’m also a bit of a documentary geek—I’ve probably watched every high-quality nature and wildlife documentary out there!

Thank you Başak! Great to have you on board!
